Mondays & Wednesdays - "Yoga with Ease" taught by Pat Berry. Pat will not be teaching yoga at the Senior Center during the summer months. Check back in the fall for her new schedule.

Tuesdays - Open Bridge - For intermediate level players every Tuesday morning. 9:30 a.m.

Wednesdays - Scrabble & Chess. Open to everyone, the more the merrier. 1:00 - 3:00 p.m.

Thursday, August 5 - "Cash for Gold" Party. Turn your gold or silver into cash! Those broken chains, odd earrings, bracelets & rings you never wear will be tested and weighed while you wait and you will leave with money instead of spending it! 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

Wednesday, August 11 - Luncheon at the home of Annie & Hank Spaulding. Annie & Hank have graciously offered to host the Center's monthly luncheon at their lovely home at Kennebunk Beach. You will start with a delicious chilled cucumber soup, followed by shrimp curry, fresh asparagus and a butter lettuce/ mandarin orange salad. Dessert is blueberry pie with ice cream. This is a lottery luncheon, limited to 24 members and if your name is picked the cost is $15/per person. Also, those picked are asked to park at the Center and carpool to the Spaulding's. The luncheon will be at 12:00 p.m. and the Center will be closed for the remainder of the day. 12:00 p.m.

Tuesday, August 17 - Blood Pressure Check-Up with Kaye Horrigan, R.N. 9:00 a.m.

Wednesday, August 18 - Vicki Durrell from the Southern Maine Agency on Aging provides information and assistance with Medicare, senior housing and other programs for seniors. Free and open to the public, but you must sign up for an appointment with Vicki by calling the Center. 1:00 - 3:00 p.m.

Thursday, August 19 - Book Club. The book selection for the month of August is Double Bind by Chris Bohjalian. 10:00 a.m.

Thursday, August 19 - A representative from Collette Vacations will be at the Center to show a slide presentation and answer your questions on the French Riviera trip scheduled for next April. 10:00 a.m.

Thursday, August 19 - The 20th Anniversary Celebration of the Senior Center at Lower Village. Please join us as we celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the Senior Center at the Coastal House on Route One in Wells. All members are invited for cocktails and hors d'oeuvres and the exchange of countless wonderful memories. RSVP required by August 12. 5:00 - 6:30 p.m.

COMING EVENTS

Parlez-vous François? Marie Jo Silver, who has taught Conversational French at Portland Adult Ed and Kennebunk Adult Ed, will be at the Center to teach a 10 week course beginning on Thursday, September 2nd from 10 - 11:30 a.m. If 1- 5 people sign up the cost will be $10/week; 6 - 10 will be $7.50/week & 11 and over will be pro-rated, but you must pay in advance for the entire 10 weeks.

Thursday, September 9 - Understanding Reverse Mortgage as a Financial Tool. Join us to learn more about this FHA insured financial tool for individuals 62 and older. Sharron Eastman, owner of Big Horizon Mortgage, Lower Village Kennebunk, will discuss the details and benefits of this loan product which allows individuals to access the equity they have amassed over a lifetime in their primary residence without a payment. Do you own your home but you are just getting by on fixed income? Have you recently had a spouse die or other significant life event which has left you with less monthly income or would you like to gift some of your equity to a child or grandchild. Other uses for reverse mortgage include: home renovations, home care, medical and prescription costs, taxes, travel and fun. Come, find out about Reverse Mortgage and how it can work for you. 10:00 - 12:00 p.m.

Saturday, September 11 - Porch Sale. This sale of attic treasures is fun for everyone. Kindly bring in your new or gently used items so they can be sorted and priced. Please, no clothing, flower vases or baskets. (Please remember, although we appreciate your donations, if you wouldn't buy the item, no one else will and it costs the Center to dispose of items left over) We are unable to accept anything until after August 1st! Donations will be accepted only until Thursday, September 9th. Be the first to show up at the sale on Saturday morning because you never know what you might find. 9:00 a.m. - Noon

Monday, September 13 - 2010 Annual Meeting of the Members of the Senior Center at Lower Village. 4:30 p.m.

Thursday, September 16 - Once again, Verm V. Rowell, M.D., renowned dermatologist, has offered her services to members of the Center for free skin cancer screenings from 9:00 - 12:00. She'll also answer any questions you may have about skin care protection. Please call the Center to schedule a 15-minute appointment.

Wednesday, September 22 - Annual Lunch at Huntington Common. Huntington Common has chosen a wonderful menu of pot roast, potatoes, carrots, rolls and a berry cobbler for dessert. This is a lottery luncheon and if you are selected, you may bring a guest but that person has to be member of the Center at the time of the drawing. Please sign up by September 10h. Lunch is $7. 12:00 p.m.

Friday, September 24 - Continuing his series of bridge lessons, Bob Blackmore, a bridge instructor with York County Senior College is coming to the Center to teach Intermediate Level Bridge! Classes will be offered for 8 weeks beginning on Friday, September 24. This series of classes emphasizes, "playing the hand". How to make the hand you are dealt work for you! You'll review scoring systems and bidding conventions. You'll focus more on playing skills rather than bidding. We'll address weaknesses in your game and offer suggestions on finesse and tips for playing with a variety of partners. The cost is $40/members, $60/non-members for the 8-week series. We need a minimum of 4 people signed up and paid by Friday, September 17th in order to offer these classes. 9:30 a.m. - Noon
